The Pilgrim Chapel at Svarttjärn

Svarttjärn is located right on the parish border between Siljansnäs and Sollerön. Border disputes several hundred years ago eventually led to the border being drawn in the middle of the pond.

Here passes Siljansleden and also Romboleden. The latter is the pilgrimage route between Lake Mälaren and Nidaros (Trondheim). From Saint Birgitta to Olav the Holy. Due to this, a small pilgrimage chapel was built in 2010. The building material is logs.

The chapel provides protection for hikers and is located on a headland by Svarttjärn. Open-air worship services are held here and on the stone slabs in front you can take a dip in the lake's dark water. It was common in the past to walk 1.5 km from Åsen's mountain huts to swim.

When we were there a calm rain sprinkled and the fishermen watched on the water surface. In the bogs, among other things, cloudberries, squash and meadow wool bloomed.

Experience the silence. Pack the thermos and visit Svarttjärn!
