Sollerön's Vikings attract tourists even in the middle of winter!

We are used to more and more German campers visiting Sollerön in the summer. That's why many raised their eyebrows when a caravan of 15 campers from Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands suddenly appeared at the end of January!

Abenteuer Touren is the name of the travel agency in Mainz that specializes in arranging trips for campers. The destinations are many and in many cases a bit adventurous. They don't shy away from traveling to darkest Africa or the troubled Middle East. Now it was Scandinavia's turn. The goal is North Cape, where they expect to be in a week. After North Cape, Lofoten and Trondheim await before the journey home. Along the way, there are planned stops for special attractions. One such was at Hembygdsgården on Sollerön!

After spending the night at the Caravan Club in Levsnäs, a Viking guided tour awaited at Hembygdsgården.

Sollerön's "Grand Old Lady Viking" Astrid Gustafsson showed up at short notice and Jerry lit a fire in the café hut so that guests could warm themselves in front of the fire.

“It was a very interested group of people who asked a lot of questions,” says Astrid. “They really wanted to know more. The fact that it was cold in the exhibition hall didn’t matter because they are used to hardships. Everything was very successful,” says a happy Astrid.

The idea of Viking guided tours was discussed with the Caravan Club already before the summer of 2022. Camping guests are looking for activities and Sollerön's Viking history is interesting.

Perhaps today's event could lead to a collaboration between Caravan Club and the Local History Association on Viking guided tours this coming summer?
