Historical scholarship in Sollerö school!

It is common for scholarships to be awarded in subjects such as music and sports. It is even more unusual for scholarships to be awarded in the subject of history. At this year's graduation in a packed Sollerö church, the Astrid and Sten Gustafsson scholarship in history was unveiled.

"I have always been fascinated by history. I want to protect the history of my hometown, which is why I took the initiative for the scholarship," says Astrid.

“The history of Sollerö parish is unique. Just think of the Vikings, the fäbod life and the tradition of folk costumes, music and midsummer celebrations. There is so much to read, explore and experience. There is a lot to read in the local history book Sool-Öen, which is a “treasure” for all history enthusiasts,” Astrid continues. “It is important to learn to take part in our cultural heritage from a young age.”

Three students in grade 6 – Adam Nyström, Nathanael Lööf and Albert Bondeson – will share the scholarship for their involvement in the history of the parish. In their work – which resulted in a tourist brochure – they have searched for and read material online and in books. They have also interviewed several Sollerö residents on the subject.

Astrid promises to continue next school year.

The scholarship is awarded by the Sollerö Local History Association.
