The fire station is being moved!

A few weeks ago we read that the old fire station at "Båkkan" has changed owners. Now the new owner is donating the fire station to the Local Heritage Association.

It is the fire tower itself that will be moved.

The plastered green building with workshop and garage will remain.

"Today we only have old timber buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries at Hembygdsgården. However, we have been missing a cultural building from 20th century Sollerön. Now we get it as a gift from above," exclaims Håkan Grudd, chairman of Sollerö Hembygdsförening.

The fire tower will be detached from the rest of the building. Festins Åkeri in Älvdalen will transport the tower on a trailer to Hembygdsgården during the spring.

“The board has discussed and agreed on where the fire tower should be placed and has decided that it will be south of the maypole,” continues Håkan Grudd. “The tower will be used for the actual raising on Midsummer Eve by installing a winch at the top. Instead of raising the pole traditionally with crossed poles, the maypole will be cranked up mechanically. The human muscle power is replaced, which makes the raising faster and safer for the audience,” says Mats Wik, who usually leads the raising from Prästhärbret.

The fire tower will become a landmark for Hembygdsgården, which will have a completely new silhouette.

This news will certainly attract more visitors to Hembygdsgården.
