Comfortable fishing on Lake Siljan

When driving on the embankment between Sollerön and Gesunda, you can see some small black dots in the distance to the north. With the help of binoculars, we see that they are cars on the ice.

We called Hasse Johnson – an experienced big game fisherman – and asked if he was the one who parks the car near Lövön and Sävön?

“Yes, that’s it,” Hasse answers. “But it’s not just me. There are several of us who “fish by car” on the ice. The ice is just over 50 cm thick so it will hold. As long as it’s cold at night, it’s fine, but you have to be observant of the weather and wind in the future.”

When asked if he catches any fish, the answer is positive. "It's mostly perch. If a pike happens to bite, it makes a splash and you lose the bait. The small perch nibble on it, much to the cats' delight. It also happens that the occasional food perch is pulled up and ends up in the frying pan in the evening."

In addition to Siljan, Hasse also fishes on Mångsjön and Grundmången. "Both are easily accessible. When I fish for char on Räjsjön, I use a snowmobile because it is unplowed there," concludes Hasse.
