During the spring semester, a collaboration has been going on between the Emgart Weaving Cottage and class 5 in Sollerö school. Every Friday morning for 1.5 hours, two students from the class have sat at the loom at Emgart and woven a rag rug. During the semester, everyone in the class – 21 students – has woven and created the rug. Before the weaving started, the students have been given a background on what it was like in the past when people had a loom at home in the cottages and wove bed sheets, pillowcases, towels, etc.
Mai Olofsson and Ann-Marie Lindgren from Hemgart proudly handed over the rug to the students when they had textile crafts. “The students were given free rein to create the design,” says textile teacher Ann-Kristin, who is very satisfied and happy. “It’s a fantastic job. The rug is so beautiful.”
“It has been exciting and fun,” the class says in unison.
The carpet is an impressive 3 meters long.
What happens to the carpet? Well, a teacher will be very happy on graduation day!
