The jubilation knew no bounds when the winners of this year's edition of the Mora Rowing Challenge were crowned in the Sports Park.
The competition has been going on during the winter among the schools in Mora. Now it was time for the finals, where 4 classes had qualified: Noretskolan class 7 E and 8 B and Morkarlbyskolan class 7 B and 8 B.
The Swedish Rowing Association's president, Charlotte Andersson, held the competition helm together with Annelie Birkeholm from Sollerö IF Rodd. Leaders and teachers were on site. A total of 120 7th and 8th graders rowed and cheered as the years passed on the rowing machines. In the semi-finals, the class had to row as far as possible in 20 minutes. The pace was high and the changes were quick at the rowing machine. After 20 minutes, the difference was only 7 meters.
The final was between the two 8th grades and Morkarlby School's 8B grade came out on top after 15 minutes of rowing. The prize check was a whopping 2500 SEK! Second place received 1500 SEK while third and fourth place received 1000 SEK each. All participants received medals.
The Rowing Challenge is organized by the Swedish Rowing Association in several locations in Sweden and is a way to recruit and get young people interested in rowing. It was the second year that the competition was organized among the schools in Mora. “Rowing is something that you can practice throughout your life and is a good complement to, for example, skiing,” says Charlotte Andersson.
Sollerö IF Rodd offers rowing school during weeks 25 and 26 (June 19 – 30 with a break for the midsummer weekend). But already now on May 25 at 5:30 PM and May 27 at 10 AM, a Try-it-out-rowing course is being arranged on Lerön. Visit rowing.solleroif.se for more information.
